Overview
As a key member of the Engineering, Assurance and Compliance Team (EnACT), the Reliability Engineer will play a critical role in delivering technical governance and assurance across systems and equipment at HM Naval Base Portsmouth. This position ensures that all infrastructure operates safely, consistently, and with optimal reliability, while remaining fully compliant with relevant legislative and regulatory standards.
With a strong background in reliability or systems engineering and qualifications to HNC level or higher, you\'ll bring proven experience and a commitment to delivering high-quality engineering solutions within a complex maritime environment. Your expertise will support the performance and resilience of critical assets, helping to minimise downtime and extend operational life across a wide range of infrastructure systems. You\'ll take ownership of technical challenges, oversee the reliability aspects of asset acceptance and commissioning in infrastructure projects, and ensure alignment with design intent and operational requirements. Furthermore, your responsibilities will include developing and managing reliability-centred maintenance strategies, supporting strategic infrastructure planning, and contributing to business improvement initiatives. Your work will be instrumental in identifying failure modes, analysing asset performance data, and implementing preventative measures to enhance system dependability. By embedding reliability principles into asset management and engineering practices, you\'ll help ensure the long-term sustainability and operational readiness of Portsmouth Naval Base.

Qualifications and Experience
* Ideally, a qualified reliability engineer with at least five years\' experience in the discipline
* Professional membership with a recognised technical body and actively working towards IEng accreditation or equivalent
* Health and safety training such as IOSH Managing Safely, CITB SMSTS, CSCS or similar
* Ability to maintain a systems-level perspective while understanding the detail behind asset performance, failure modes, and investigative rationale
* Strong grasp of statutory and regulatory compliance within maritime and built infrastructure settings
* Working knowledge of reliability principles applied to an industrial setting (highly beneficial)
* Solid expertise in root cause analysis, condition monitoring, and reliability-centred maintenance strategies
