Make a Real Difference in Your Community Portsmouth City Council’s Youth Justice Service (YJS) is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and dedicated Restorative Justice Practitioner to join our well‑resourced and innovative multi‑disciplinary team. The Role As a Restorative Justice Practitioner, you will: Deliver specialist restorative justice activities includingvictim contact, reparation, mediation, restorative conferences, and one‑to‑one work. Administer and coordinate restorative justice processes sensitively and efficiently to support effective planning and intervention. Arrange and oversee community placements for reparation and unpaid work, including evening/weekend opportunities. Work closely with our Community Engagement Coordinator torecruit, train, and support volunteers, promoting opportunities across media channels and community venues. Contribute to wider Youth Justice Service delivery, working collaboratively with professionals across health, police, social care, education and other statutory partners. Ensure all work adheres to required safeguarding, public protection, and GDPR standards. The ideal candidate We’re looking for someone who: Understands the Youth Justice System and the role of restorative justice within it. Has strong assessment skills and can use them effectively with young people, victims, and volunteers. Can work confidently within set timescales and adapt to changing service needs. Brings a professional, engaging approach that supports meaningful participation from service users. Can assess and manage risk (reoffending, harm, vulnerability) confidently. Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling positive relationships with young people, victims, volunteers, and partner agencies. Is self‑motivated, organised, calm under pressure, and able to use initiative while following policies and procedures. Has strong problem‑solving skills and a flexible, creative approach. Supports equality, diversity, and inclusive practice. Has competent IT skills, including use of Microsoft Office and case management databases. Can converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English (essential).
