A welcoming and inclusive school in Gateshead is seeking a dedicated Care Support Worker to join their team. The school supports children and young people with a range of additional needs, and they are looking for someone who is compassionate, reliable and confident providing both care and emotional support.
This role is ideal for individuals with a background in care, support work, SEN, or anyone passionate about helping children feel safe, valued and ready to learn.
About the Role
As a Care Support Worker, you will be supporting pupils who require additional help with daily activities, personal care, emotional regulation and engagement in learning.
Your responsibilities will include:
1. Providing personal care to pupils who require it (training provided)
2. Supporting mobility, communication and sensory needs
3. Offering emotional reassurance and helping pupils manage daily challenges
4. Working 1:1 or in small groups, depending on pupil needs
5. Helping pupils follow routines and access learning
6. Assisting teaching staff with classroom tasks and transitions
7. Encouraging independence, confidence and positive interactions
8. Contributing to pupil care plans and reporting any concerns promptly
What We’re Looking For
9. Experience in care, support work, youth work or a related field
10. A patient, calm and nurturing approach
11. Good communication skills and a willingness to work as part of a team
12. Confidence providing personal care and supporting vulnerable pupils
13. Understanding of SEND or a willingness to learn
14. A strong commitment to safeguarding
15. A DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply
Whether you’ve worked in residential care, community care, health & social care, or SEN education, your transferable skills will be highly valued.
