Overview
We are looking for a proactive and people-focused experienced Health & Safety Advisor to join our team. In this role, you’ll work closely with our Group Health, Safety & Compliance Director to help make sure our workplaces are safe, supportive, and compliant. You’ll shape how we deliver our Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality Management Systems – by carrying out audits and inspections on site, supporting teams with advice and guidance, preparing reports, or delivering engaging presentations.
A key part of your role is to work with site management teams to ensure our sites are safe and compliant through regular audits, practical advice, and strong working relationships that help everyone stay safe. You’ll investigate incidents with clarity and care, ensuring findings support managers, insurers, and others in making the right decisions. You’ll also contribute to tender submissions to help us present our capabilities to clients.
The role is based at our Head Office in Cannock, with travel to construction sites across the wider West Midlands (and occasionally the East Midlands). Flexibility around start and finish times is essential as daily activities may vary.
What is involved within the Role?
* Support site management teams in keeping sites safe and compliant through regular Health & Safety audits and clear feedback.
* Investigate and write up incidents, near misses, and cases of ill health to support learning and improvement.
* Share and present key health and safety statistics.
* Provide guidance on all aspects of health, safety, environmental, and quality systems to site and office-based colleagues.
* Plan and deliver training sessions that bring safety to life.
* Promote a positive health and safety culture across the company and with subcontractors.
* Assist with Construction Phase Health and Safety Plans, working closely with site teams.
* Contribute to tender submissions and pre-qualification questionnaires.
* Assess subcontractor competence to ensure safe working practices.
* Attend and contribute to health and safety meetings on site and at company level.
* Liaise with clients and external bodies (e.g., Local Authorities, HSE, Environmental Agency) representing the company professionally.
* Draft and share regular health and safety alerts to keep everyone informed.
* Support with insurance claims by liaising with our provider.
* Contribute to the development of new procedures and initiatives that strengthen our health, safety, environmental, and quality systems.
* Participate in ad-hoc projects as needed – no two days will be the same.
About you
We’re looking for someone who not only has the right skills but also brings enthusiasm and a collaborative spirit to the role. Ideally, you’ll have:
* A NEBOSH Construction Certificate (or equivalent qualification).
* At least 3 years’ experience in a construction health and safety, environmental, or quality role.
* Knowledge of ISO 9001, 45001, and 14001 standards.
* Experience writing RAMS and COSHH assessments.
* Strong IT skills and confidence using digital tools.
* Experience delivering training or presentations.
* A background in health and safety, environmental, energy, and quality management systems.
* The ability to prioritise, stay organised, and meet deadlines.
* Flexibility and willingness to take on new responsibilities as the role evolves.
* A strong team-player mindset – someone who supports colleagues and shares knowledge openly.
