Experienced Environmental Solicitor – London | High-Impact Advisory & Sustainability Work
Rutherford has been mandated by a leading UK practice to appoint an experienced Environmental Solicitor to join its London-based specialist team.
This group is recognised for delivering market-leading environmental, planning, and sustainability advice across major development, regeneration, and infrastructure projects. The role offers an exceptional opportunity to work at the intersection of environmental law, climate strategy, and built environment development, supporting clients who are shaping the future of sustainable real estate and public-sector policy.
The work
You’ll advise a diverse and sophisticated client base, including public authorities, developers, investors, asset managers, and housing providers, on matters such as:
* Contaminated land, pollution control, and environmental liabilities
* Waste management, air and water quality, and emissions control
* Biodiversity net gain, natural capital, and emerging environmental policy
* Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), permitting, and enforcement
* Structuring contracts and transactions to allocate environmental risk
* Supporting climate, ESG, and decarbonisation strategies
* Integrating environmental advice with planning, regeneration, and real estate matters
The team’s integrated approach ensures lawyers work closely with colleagues across planning, construction, and real estate, providing truly holistic support across the project lifecycle.
What we’re looking for
We’re seeking a qualified solicitor with strong experience in:
* Environmental advisory work (public or private sector)
* Environmental regulation, permitting, or enforcement
* Sustainability, ESG governance, or climate-related matters
* Environmental support on real estate or development transactions
You’ll be commercially minded, confident working with multi-stakeholder clients, and comfortable navigating evolving environmental and sustainability regulations.
