As a Hybrid Resident Medical Officer, you’ll play a crucial role providing on call and day shift cover for Cygnet Hospital Colchester.
Cygnet Hospital Colchester provides a 59 bed service offering intensive support and rehabilitation for men with learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorders or mental health needs.
This role will be based on Highwoods Ward, our 19 bedded male acute service. The service provides a safe and stabilising environment for men who are experiencing an acute episode of mental illness and require an emergency admission.
The ethos of our service is about assessing and treating people in the least restrictive environment and planning for discharge in a robust and timely fashion. With a focus on stabilisation, we support individuals to manage their mental health, reinforce daily living skills and prepare for independent life back in the community.

* Patient admissions

Job Responsibilities
Provide on‑call and day shift cover for the acute ward at Highwoods Ward, including covering out of hours (5pm‑9am & weekends) and day shifts (9am‑5pm). Work within a multidisciplinary team, accessing consultant advice as needed. Stabilise and manage the mental health of male acute patients, reinforce daily living skills and plan timely discharges.
Person Specification
General Requirements
* Fully GMC registered & MBBS (or equivalent) qualified
* Excellent clinical decision maker with sound judgement, able to manage risk and know when to ask for help
* Experience in psychiatry
* Able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
* A first‑rate communicator who can interview, assess & treat patients and write clear, comprehensive medical notes
* Committed to continued professional development
