We are seeking
to appoint a customer-focused Library Assistant to work in the historic Bodleian Old Library and Radcliffe Camera, assisting readers in their use of the library. You will undertake a range of duties on front-line desks, always providing high-quality customer service to readers and members of the public. You will also participate in sorting/re-shelving books and collection management projects across the library reading rooms.
This is a permanent, full-time position, working 36.5 hours per week. The role requires lifting and carrying boxes of library materials, pushing trolleys, climbing ladders, and using kick-stools to access some of the library’s bookshelves and re-shelve materials.
About You
You will be educated to GCSE level or equivalent, with the ability to communicate effectively, confidently, and courteously with readers, colleagues, and the public. Good general IT literacy and a proven ability to perform routine tasks with care and accuracy are essential. Reliability and the ability to work effectively under pressure and as part of a team in a busy environment are also required. Previous experience of library work is desirable, and familiarity with ALMA/library databases would be an advantage, though full training will be provided as necessary.
