This position is based at our Rivenhall Facility in Essex, a state-of-the-art plant that processes approximately, tonnes of residual waste per year, generating electricity to power around 60, homes.
The ESH Apprentice (Environment, Health & Safety) shall undertake a Level 3 Safety, Health and Environment Technician Apprenticeship, with a combination of workplace training and a minimum of 6 hours per week ( hours) remote online learning, over a period of 20 months.
The apprentice will report to and assist with the QESH Managers day to day activities and the requirements of the Rivenhall plant. Attend additional suitable ESH training will be undertaken as required to fulfil the role in the workplace. On successful completion of the apprenticeship you will become a Level 3 SHE Technician and be eligable to join IOSH at TechIOSH level
Please note this position is a two year fixed-term contract.
Role & Responsibilities
1. Develop knowledge of health and safety law.
2. Understand the moral and ethical foundations of effective health and safety management.
3. Gain familiarity with ISO occupational health and safety management systems. Build competence in conducting Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) assessments.
4. Acquire insight into Construction, Design and Management (CDM) regulations.
5. Explore the principles of accident and incident causation.
6. Strengthen awareness of proactive riskcontrol measures.
7. Gain understanding of quality management systems and ISO, including the importance of accurate document creation and document control.
8. Care, connect and liaise with all staff and service providers within the facility to ensure risks are identified, controlled and/or suitably mitigated so that all work is carried out safely and compliantly.
9. Maintain a strong focus on continuous improvement and the people who contribute to it.
Experience Required
10. Functional skills in English and Maths (GCSE 4/C+)
11. No previous ESH experience necessary.
12. Previous general employment ideally.
13. An interest in health, safety and/or environmental practice.
14. Positive and proactive person.
15. Good communication skills.
16. Ability to analyse and be constructively critical.
