Salary: £29,633 to £40,988 dependent on experience plus flexible benefits allowance up to £2,071 per annum. Location: Woking. Employment: Permanent, Flexible Hours/Full Time, 37 hours per week.
Woking Borough Council has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and experienced professional to join our busy and dedicated Housing Standards Team as a Housing Standards Officer on a full time, permanent basis. Closing on 20/05/2026 at 23:55.
Responsibilities
* Improve housing standards across the Borough by working pro‑actively and providing advice and guidance.
* Undertake detailed property inspections.
* Take appropriate enforcement action using a wide range of relevant legislation, including licensing, to reduce hazards in housing in the private sector.
* Operate at the forefront of major sector changes, including the implementation of the Renters' Rights Bill and the introduction of Additional Licensing of Houses in Multiple Occupation.
Qualifications
* Experience in Housing Standards and knowledge of housing legislation across all areas of housing standards.
* Excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate accurately and effectively with a wide range of people.
* A positive and confident outlook, experience of working with diverse client groups.
* Valid full driver’s licence.
* Ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English.
* Potential to undertake a Level 4 Apprenticeship in Regulatory Compliance with a focus on Housing.
