About the role As an Apprentice Piping Designer, you will receive development training to become proficient in the design of piping systems using sophisticated 3D modelling software packages across a range of diverse projects. Our projects include Carbon Capture and Hydrogen Generation, Storage and Distribution from Concept, FEED and Detailed Design, through to Construction and Commissioning. Costain Apprentice Programme An apprenticeship is a combination of employment and formally recognised training that is available to anyone aged sixteen or over who is not in full time education and is eligible to work in the UK. As an apprentice you will study towards nationally recognised qualifications whilst working as a fully integrated member of the team, inputting and contributing alongside your colleagues. The process will take approximately four years to complete. Our line managers are fully supportive of the Apprentice Programme and will be involved in helping you along the way. In addition to the programme, we offer mentoring and support in every area of work, as well as a structured training programme to enable Apprentices to work towards achieving their goals and qualifications. Apprentices may have the opportunity to work on a number of exciting and progressive projects around the UK, in sectors including energy, nuclear, highways, rail, water, airports and tunnels. Responsibilities Day-to-day duties Work closely with engineers to design piping systems that meet project specifications Develop piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) Ensure all designs comply with relevant codes and standards Collaborate with project managers to ensure designs are completed on time and within budget Support site visits to gather information and verify existing conditions Work under the guidance of senior designers Build piping models from laser scans and site surveys Perform piping clash checks About you To enable us to fully assess your application, please ensure your application includes details of your educational qualifications at GCSE or equivalent level Passionate about engineering with a willingness to learn and develop IT proficient (i.e. Microsoft Office) Able to work accurately and appreciate its importance to the team Able to build and maintain positive working relationships The ability to thrive in pressured situations The ability to empathise and communicate with all people, regardless of their background or circumstances Good organisation and time management skills Team player with excellent communication skills Always work with consideration of Health, Safety and the Environment.
