About the Role:
As an SEN Teacher, you will be instrumental in planning, preparing, and delivering engaging and differentiated lessons to secondary students with a range of Special Educational Needs. You will foster a positive and inclusive learning environment where every student is encouraged to achieve their academic, social, and emotional potential.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality, differentiated lessons across relevant subjects, tailored to the diverse needs of students with SEN.
Assess and monitor student progress effectively, providing constructive feedback and implementing appropriate support strategies.
Develop, implement, and review Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students, ensuring they meet their learning goals.
Create a positive, safe, and nurturing classroom environment that promotes engagement, self-esteem, and positive behaviour.
Collaborate closely with Teaching Assistants, other teaching staff, parents, and external specialists (e.g., therapists, educational psychologists) to ensure holistic student support.
Manage classroom dynamics effectively, utilizing positive behaviour management techniques.
Contribute to the ongoing development of the school's SEN provision and curriculum.
Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate effectively with parents/carers.
Requirements:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
Proven experience teaching students with Special Educational Needs at the secondary level.
A strong understanding of a variety of SEN (e.g., Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Moderate/Severe Learning Difficulties (MLD/SLD), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, communication difficulties).
Excellent classroom management skills and the ability to inspire and motivate students.
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building strong rapport with students, staff, and parents.
Patience, resilience, and a creative approach to overcoming learning barriers.
A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
Desirable:
Additional qualifications or training in Special Educational Needs (e.g., NASENCo, or a postgraduate certificate/diploma in SEN).
Experience with specific teaching methodologies or interventions for SEN (e.g., PECS, Makaton, Team Teach).
Experience in a specialist SEN school setting.
