Job overview The post holder will work with the Infant Feeding Lead, to develop and align the infant feeding offer within the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough 0-19 services as part of the Universal Public Health Nursing Offer. This will include working in partnership with the Infant Feeding Lead who is responsible for achieving and maintaining full BFI accreditation and progressing to Gold. The post holder will provide day to day supervision and line management to the Infant Feeding Team which supports families with complex feeding needs, facilitate training to families and the professional teams. To provide specialist clinical leadership across the Health Visiting Service and take an active role in developing systems and practices that promote continuous improvement in service delivery which minimises harm to patients and improves patient experience & outcomes. The post holder will be responsible for supporting the Infant Feeding Lead in achieving and maintaining full Baby Friendly accreditation leading to sustainability accreditation. Advert Provide advanced, research-based clinical practice and professional support in line with NMC standards. Lead on standard setting, clinical audits, and benchmarking—particularly in infant feeding and relationship building—to ensure evidence-based care and quality assurance aligned with clinical governance. Conduct family and staff audits, develop action plans from feedback, and adapt services to meet evolving community needs. Champion co-production in service development and promote innovative, responsive practices. Utilize IT to inform practice and support public health targets. Contribute to the Infant Feeding Team across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, aligning with national/local guidance (e.g., Healthy Child Programme, Every Child Matters). Support policy development for Baby Friendly standards and ensure adherence to the International Code of Marketing of Breastmilk Substitutes. Collaborate on interagency care planning for vulnerable children. Mentor and supervise staff on Baby Friendly standards. Lead public health initiatives tied to national targets. Communicate complex information effectively, using negotiation and conflict resolution to support UNICEF Baby Friendly accreditation. Address diverse communication needs and promote achievements toward Gold accreditation. Manage personal and team workload flexibly. Perform additional duties as directed by the Baby Friendly Lead. Detailed job description and main responsibilities Be responsible for improving standards of clinical practice, inspiring colleagues to improve standards and quality, and to develop professional practice. To form effective supportive relationships with clients with complex infant feeding problems and issues. To be able to gather information that may be sensitive or complex and analyse it as part of a full assessment of a client’s strengths and difficulties. Work closely with clients and carers using empathy, tact, reassurance and active listening to complete assessments, discuss results, and agree treatment options. Undertake home visits/ virtual contacts – to families who need support with infant feeding. Develop and implement robust clinical supervision across the Trust. Ensure clinical Practitioners (individual and team) are continually engaged in formalised and reflective practice (including regular Clinical Supervision) and quality improvement activity. Develop and implement systems to assure clinical competence, safety and risk mitigation throughout the professional group. Complete the work identified in the action plan established to ensure the achievement of Baby Friendly Stage 3 accreditation within timescale. The post holder will be required to make judgements involving facts or situations some of which will require analysis. Develop and review practice policies, including infant feeding, safe sleep and compliance with the international codes of marketing of breast milk substitute, for the organisation. Work with team and service managers to implement relevant NICE Guidance and other relevant national and professional guidance and standards. Ensure there is an appropriate level of advanced/expert clinical practice support and skill mix available to staff to facilitate clinical reasoning, clinical decisions and the delivery of high quality care. The post holder should demonstrate advanced skills and knowledge in the field of breastfeeding. The post holder will be required to have understanding of a range of work procedures and practices, which requires expertise within a specialism or discipline, underpinned by theoretical knowledge or relevant practical experience. Drive to venues, sometimes in rush hour traffic e.g. clients’ homes, GP practices, Children’s Centres, Family Hubs & Traveller Sites/unauthorised encampments. Anticipate barriers to communication and use interpreters or tools as required. Liaise and make appropriate referrals within Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Community Health Services and with other agencies/ partners e.g. midwives, G.P practices, Local Authority and Family Hubs, Children’s Centres to improve the outcome for the child and family. Produce accurate and complete records of communication consistent with NMC legislation and organisational policies and procedures. Represent the Infant Feeding Team in interdisciplinary and multi-agency settings and take the lead when appropriate providing clinical and professional input. Facilitate clear communication channels to work within partnership with clients and carers. To listen appropriately and take into account any sensitive issues and communicate these to relevant persons/agencies ensuring that the child is protected and that disclosures are acted upon according to the trusts safeguarding children policies. To utilise a range of communication methods with colleagues and Manager to include electronic communication. Attend relevant CCS team/locality meetings. Ensure that all organisational-wide communication is accessed and adhered to accordingly via the @ccs.nhs.uk and/or nhsmail.net account given upon start of employment. This also applies to communication sent via internal or external mail, fax or memo and our Intranet. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislation, national and local policies and strategies and other issues in relation to the full range of patient pathways to which the profession contributes, and the specific areas of clinical expertise. Support the implementation and delivery of the safeguarding agenda to promote the safeguarding of young people and manage risk in partnership with the safeguarding team. Work collaboratively with Team Managers and clinical leads to ensure continual quality improvement in services. This includes acting as a champion to provide leadership and support to the professional group. Support new innovations, pilot programmes and research in the profession. Be actively involved in personal development plans and individualised personal reviews of staff providing expert clinical assessment. Work with Senior Managers and clinicians from a range of disciplines in developing integrated clinical care pathways to ensure that there is both a strong professional support and engagement of the delivery of the pathway and its financial and operational feasibility. Work with Senior Managers and Team Managers to review current service delivery with regards to quality and safety and identify changes needed to be made in existing models and pathways. To support delivery plans for pathway development, this involves discussing and agreeing potential service plans with a range of stakeholders, e.g. clinical staff, and senior managers ensuring plans are successfully delivered on time. To ensure strong relationships are established with the clinical governance team, information services and clinical reference groups so that evidence-based practice is applied when facilitating improvement and any redesign, so that high quality standards of clinical care are delivered. Analyse and interpret local and national policies regarding improvement. To act as a visible champion and facilitator for innovation and improvement. To work with Professional Leads, Senior Managers and Service Managers to ensure pathway development work is managed in accordance with the Trust’s values and strategic objectives and delivered according to plan. This post will have management responsibility for staff of band 4’s in the Infant Feeding team. Plan and co-ordinate team cover during sickness, annual leave and absence to meet the needs of the service. Assist in the recruitment and induction of new staff members. Maintaining own professional development and requirement to take part in appraisal and KSF process. Expected to manage complex facts or situations requiring analysis, interpretation, comparison of a range of options related to HV activity/outcomes and future workforce planning. Promote a continuous learning environment for colleagues within the Trust, in collaboration with the HCP Quality and Service Improvement Lead and Practice Leads. Develop and deliver training and education based on UNICEF curriculum to internal and external staff throughout the year. To put in place systems that allow for learning from outcomes of clinical governance reviews, audits, complaints and SIs. Able to travel independently driving a car to multiple locations in one day, whilst transporting equipment. Occasional requirement to sit for long periods of time compiling reports and associated paperwork.
