St Luke’s Hospice is recruiting an Estates Technician to support the maintenance and safe operation of its hospice and retail premises. This is a hands-on role providing planned and reactive maintenance, supporting compliance, and ensuring facilities remain safe, functional and well maintained. The Role You will be responsible for carrying out a range of maintenance and repair tasks across hospice buildings, retail sites and associated facilities. Working closely with the Estates Manager, you’ll contribute to statutory compliance, health and safety, and ongoing estates improvement. The role requires flexibility, good organisational skills and the ability to work independently while supporting the wider team. Key Responsibilities Maintenance and Repairs Deliver planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive repairs across hospice and retail sites Carry out general maintenance work including plumbing, joinery, basic electrical tasks and decorating (within competence) Monitor and maintain building systems such as heating, lighting, ventilation and water systems Identify, record and resolve faults, hazards and breakdowns, escalating where specialist support is required Assist with fire alarm testing, emergency lighting and other safety systems Health, Safety and Compliance Complete statutory checks including fire safety, water flushing and emergency systems testing Work in line with health and safety legislation, hospice policies and safe systems of work Support audits, inspections and risk assessments Liaise with external contractors and monitor work standards and safety Use hospice vehicles where required, in line with driving and safety procedures Estates Support Ensure all staff and patient areas are safe, functional and well maintained Support refurbishment projects, room moves and layout changes Maintain accurate maintenance records and compliance documentation Provide practical estates support to colleagues across the organisation About You You’ll have experience carrying out planned and reactive maintenance within an estates, facilities or similar environment, with practical, multi-skilled abilities across areas such as plumbing, joinery, basic electrical work and general building maintenance. You’ll understand key health and safety requirements and be confident working to safe systems of work. You’ll be organised, able to prioritise tasks, diagnose faults effectively and keep accurate maintenance records. Comfortable working independently as well as part of a team, you’ll communicate clearly and professionally with colleagues, service users and contractors. A relevant trade qualification (or equivalent experience), GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths, and a full UK driving licence are required. Experience in healthcare or other regulated environments, along with formal health and safety or electrical training, would be an advantage.
