An exciting opportunity has arisen in the School of Life Sciences for a highly motivated and senior professional to join its leadership as School Manager.
One of eight Schools in the University, the School of Life Sciences has an annual income of over £75m and is home to over 800 researchers and doctoral students making fundamental discoveries on the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying health and disease in humans, animals, plants, parasites and bacteria. The University of Dundee is the UK's top-ranked University for biological sciences according to the most recent Research Excellence Framework (REF2021). Dundee has a strong track record of ensuring that fundamental research has real impact. We are one of the leading universities in the UK for spinning out and commercialising research, creating companies such as Exscientia and Amphista Therapeutics. We are 6th in the UK and 1st in Scotland for the value of our spinouts in the last two decades.
Your priorities will include:
* Supporting the Dean in the strategic development, management and administration of the School
* Providing effective leadership for the day-to-day operations of the School
* Providing leadership for the administrative development of new programmes, partnerships and other enterprise activities
* Effective management of the School's budget, resources and facilities
* Ensuring effective communication across and beyond the School
* Working with others to create and promote a positive work environment
Who we're looking for:
* Educated to degree level, preferably to Masters level
* Senior management experience in a higher education institution
* Knowledge and understanding of the key issues facing universities in Scotland
* High level business planning, financial awareness and strategic thinking skills
* Excellent written and oral communications skills, with a proven ability to influence and persuade effectively
