Senior Advisor - Future Agriculture - Environmental Land Management - 31666
The Environment Agency is committed to an inclusive workforce. This role supports reforms to the Agricultural policy and the Environmental Land Management (ELM) schemes, working with Defra and delivery partner colleagues to improve services to farmers and land managers. The role contributes to the EA2030 strategy and government targets for water, the environment and climate by influencing the design and delivery of incentives within the broader response to government reviews.
You will be at the forefront of informing and shaping the future of ELM, particularly the delivery of Countryside Stewardship Higher Tier (CSHT). You will deliver key CSHT products for the Farming and Countryside Programme and contribute to continuous improvement of the scheme through its design and delivery. You will provide advice in meetings, manage commissions, deliver and oversee programme milestones, and identify future risks and resource requirements. You will work across teams and organisations with senior leaders to articulate a scheme that supports and delivers outcomes.
The team sits within the Nature & Place Directorate, part of the National Agriculture and Land Team, in an agile, fast-paced, collaborative environment. We foster a welcoming, safe, and inclusive culture and use smart tools to stay connected and reduce travel.
Responsibilities
* Provide advice in meetings and manage commissions related to the Environmental Land Management schemes.
* Deliver and oversee programme milestones; identify risks and resource requirements.
* Collaborate across a variety of teams and organisations, including senior leaders, to articulate schemes that support EA outcomes.
* Influence the design and delivery of incentives within the wider policy context.
* Contribute to continuous improvement of CSHT through its design and delivery.
Experience and qualifications
* Experience of Agriculture and working with Defra and other statutory bodies is essential.
* Politically aware with excellent communication and networking skills.
* Understanding environmental sensitivities associated with significant agricultural sector reform.
* Experience interpreting/evaluating evidence to propose effective risk-based solutions for challenging problems.
* Ability to prioritise and deliver complex work; self-starter who develops and advances ideas.

Location, travel and arrangements
EA Office base location; national role with flexible/hybrid working in England. Some travel and overnight stays may be required. Training will be provided where relevant.
