Job Description
Communications Test Engineer | Milton Keynes
We are working with a pioneering aerospace business, who are developing innovative communication systems for satellites, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), launch vehicles, and other space and airborne platforms.
They are looking for a Communications Test Engineer, to spearhead the integration and verification of advanced communication systems, primarily focusing on baseband digital processing and verification, with some exposure to analog and RF hardware as needed. Key responsibilities involve developing and managing setups and test software to validate modems and links at both baseband and RF levels.
The ideal candidate will be someone who is detail-oriented, has a strong end-to-end system perspective, demonstrates proficiency in digital engineering and software development, possesses foundational knowledge of RF concepts, and enjoys engaging with cross-disciplinary teams.
Responsibilities
* Define, design, implement, and maintain measurement and test solutions for modem and link validation, with an emphasis on baseband signal processing and digital verification workflows.
* Analyze and define calibration and metrology approaches, including statistical error analysis, confidence intervals, and error budgets.
* Develop modular and reusable software tools (primarily in Python or similar languages) for diverse test environments.
* Analyze and troubleshoot link performance issues.
* Collaborate closely with digital signal processing, hardware, and software teams to enhance system performance.
Requirements
* Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related discipline.
* At least 2 years of experience with digital or RF measurement and instrumentation (baseband experience strongly considered).
* At least 2 years of programming experience using Python.
Preferred Qualifications
* Hands-on experience with digital and RF measurement equipment such as analyzers, vector signal generators, power sensors, and network analyzers.
* Familiarity with baseband link performance measurement tools (e.g., protocol testers, channel emulators, bit error rate testers).
* Familiarity with link performance testing tools (e.g., link/protocol testers, channel emulators).
* Knowledge of physical-layer satellite modem standards and algorithms (e.g., DVB-S2, CCSDS).
* Experience with collaborative software development practices (version control, code reviews).
* Background in test automation frameworks.
* Proficiency in both Linux and Windows environments.
* Skills in statistical analysis and metrology.
