Caretaker with Transport Support (Temp to Perm)
Full-time | Agency Role | Permanent Opportunity After Interview (Scale 4, 37.5 hours per week, 52 weeks)
We are recruiting on behalf of a specialist education setting for a Caretaker with Transport Support to join their site team on a temporary-to-permanent basis.
This position will initially be offered as a full-time agency role for 60 working days. Following a successful interview, the role will become permanent, subject to standard checks.
This is a hands-on, varied role combining caretaking, site maintenance, and minibus driving, ideal for someone reliable, practical, and confident supporting transport operations.
The Role
You will support the safe, clean, and effective running of the site, carrying out general caretaking and maintenance duties alongside regular minibus driving.
Flexibility, strong organisational skills, and a proactive “can-do” attitude are essential.
Key Responsibilities
Caretaking, Grounds & Maintenance
1. Day-to-day caretaking and site maintenance
2. Planned and reactive maintenance tasks
3. Maintaining clean, safe buildings and outdoor areas
4. Basic repairs including painting, plumbing, carpentry, and general maintenance
5. Replacing light bulbs, cleaning vents, and reporting hazards
6. Preparing rooms and spaces for events and meetings
7. Waste management and storage area upkeep
Transport & Minibus Support
8. Drive a minibus to transport pupils, staff, equipment, and supplies
9. Carry out daily vehicle safety checks and basic maintenance
10. Ensure vehicles are clean, roadworthy, and compliant
11. Safely assist passengers, including wheelchair users and tail-lift operation
12. Ensure seatbelts and safety equipment are correctly used
13. Complete transport documentation and incident reports
14. Follow procedures for breakdowns, accidents, and emergencies
15. Carry out emergency cleaning where required
Health, Safety & Security
16. Support health and safety checks and record keeping
17. Act as a Fire Warden
18. Support site security, including key holding
19. Maintain confidentiality and promote safeguarding at all times
What We’re Looking For
Essential
20. Full UK driving licence and a willingness to learn how to drive the minibus
21. Experience in caretaking, facilities, site support, or maintenance work
22. Practical, hands-on approach with good problem-solving skills
23. Ability to prioritise tasks and work flexibly
24. Good communication and people skills
25. Commitment to safeguarding and health & safety
Desirable
26. D1 driving licence
27. Experience driving a minibus
28. Health & Safety qualifications
29. Experience working in education or with children/adults with disabilities
