Costain has been awarded a Managed Service Provider framework contract to oversee water and wastewater maintenance across the entire United Utilities network, serving over six million people in the North West of England.
The Project Manager will lead the delivery of planned and reactive projects across the region, building relationships with operational personnel and supply‑chain partners, and fostering a collaborative team culture.
Location: Primarily based at Aviator Way, Manchester with additional sites at the Costain office, Warrington and network sites in the North‑West; hybrid working option where appropriate.
Responsibilities
* Lead, line‑manage and develop multidisciplinary teams.
* Provide whole‑life oversight of maintenance projects through design, procurement, assembly, commissioning and hand‑over.
* Ensure supply‑chain compliance with the framework management plan.
* Promote a safety culture to achieve Zero LTI and RIDDOR incidents.
* Deliver projects with a commercial focus, challenging scope and efficient delivery strategies.
* Engage stakeholders at strategic and operational levels to secure support for projects.
* Provide reliable reporting of project performance into MSP systems.
* Identify and mitigate key project and programme risks early.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
* Experience managing multidisciplinary projects, especially in the water sector.
* Strong track record of delivering project programmes.
* Understanding of construction contract law and common contract forms.
* Ability to build trusted relationships with key client stakeholders and supply‑chain partners.
* Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, document control systems and Primavera software.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Qualifications
* HNC/HND or degree in an engineering discipline.
* SMSTS or IOSH Managing Safely qualification.
* Relevant CSCS card.
* Full UK driving licence.
