Reporting to the Head of Safeguarding, the post holder will ensure adherence to the principles, practices and procedures of safeguarding in Extern, whilst driving best practice that is informed by ongoing developments in training and policy requirements.The postholder will work in conjunction with the Head of Safeguarding and other internal/external stakeholders on all safeguarding matters and will support the Practice Development Unit to ensure safeguarding training is up to date and fit for purpose.Please see employer website for full job details & person specification.


Responsibilities

* As required by the Head of Safeguarding, take the lead and/or support in investigative processes, ensuring best practice is adhered to and serve as the designated representative.
* Contribute with the preparation of internal safeguarding audits and investigations.
* Work independently under the direction of the Head of Safeguarding to review any preliminary screening internally.
* Support the Head of Safeguarding in the production of monthly/quarterly statistical reports.
* Review trends within safeguarding statistics and develop a report to identify areas of need within departments.
* Have a working knowledge of all current legislation (children/adult safeguarding).
* Work with the Head of Safeguarding in the coordination and preparation of the Safeguarding Committee/Governance meetings.
* Work with the Data Protection Officer to develop retention periods for safeguarding data and to monitor/manage the storage of records in relation to all safeguarding concerns / allegations.
* Work with the Quality, Audit and Risk department to conduct safeguarding audits across the organisation, including gathering feedback from service users and staff where appropriate.
* Liaise as required with the Case Manager and the Designated Liaison person(s) / Designated Safeguarding Officer for child protection and adult safeguarding concerns.
* Liaise with Head of Safeguarding and staff on matters of safety and safeguarding and when deciding whether to make a referral by liaising with relevant agencies if appropriate.
* Act as a source of support and advice for management and staff with regards to Safeguarding matters.
* Work in conjunction with management and staff to ensure a thorough understanding of safeguarding & audit issues, policies, and procedures.
* Support the planned development and implementation of specific Safeguarding training throughout the organisation.
* Contribute to audit fieldwork as directed by the Head of Safeguarding and the Head of Quality & Audit.
* Work in collaboration with other professionals and agencies to positively contribute to the effective and efficient operation of safeguarding (Internal/External).
* Work with the Head of Safeguarding to identify and manage areas of safeguarding risk and work with other departments and services to develop solutions.
* Work closely with the Head of Safeguarding on all health and safety matters relating to service user safeguarding.
* Work on the development of new processes to support staff in safeguarding best practice.Work with the Quality & Audit Department in relation to required auditing activity.
* Attend, participate in internal meetings where appropriate.Ensure effective communication in line with Extern key messaging to staff.Represent the organisation at external forums and networks if required.
* Conform to all of Extern’s Health & Safety policies, procedures and safe systems of work and not improvise by using methods, tools or equipment which entail unnecessary risk.
* Professionally represent Extern through a variety of communication mediums e.g. email, electronic media, telephone and presentations.
* Work with the Head of Safeguarding to collate a range of qualitative and quantitative data for reporting purposes.
* Work with the Head of Safeguarding in the preparation of Audit and Risk papers.Work with the Head of Safeguarding with the development and implementation of the Client Record Management System.
* Actively participate in supervision, appraisal and other relevant meetings.Maintain professional registration with a Social Care Council.
* Ensure personal accountability in accordance with the Social Care Council Code of Conduct.Keep up-to-date with child and adult safeguarding policies, regulations and developments to fulfil the role, including attending relevant training.
* Undertake such training and personal development that is identified by Extern through the annual appraisal process to ensure personal CPD remains up to date.Seek to make continuous improvements within area of responsibility.
* The post holder will promote and support effective team working, fostering a culture of openness and transparency. Post holder will ensure that they take all concerns raised with them seriously and act in accordance with Extern’s Raising Concerns.
* Any other duties directed by the Head of safeguarding.


Skills and Qualifications

* Hold a recognised professional qualification in Social Work.
* Minimum of 3 years’ experience working directly in health and social care with children and/or adults who are vulnerable.
* Minimum of 3 years’ experience in dealing with safeguarding issues within a team.
* Proficient in the use of IT software, to include Microsoft Office applications.Proficient in minute taking and report writing.
* Be registered or willing to register with NISCC within three months following commencement of employment (you will be required to provide evidence of NISCC registration).
* Full driving licence and access to/own car, with appropriate business insurance, to include travel throughout the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.
* Flexibility to travel to Extern offices throughout the island of Ireland as and when required.
* Joint Protocol trained.Experience in child protection/adult safeguarding.Knowledge of report writing (investigations, court reports).Knowledge of ROI child protection/adult protection.
