Paediatric day surgery is located within day surgery unit at St Richards hospital .
We have a stand alone 6 bedded paediatric day ward which is a busy unit which cares for children having surgery from a wide range of specialties.
We are looking for a committed, adaptable, hard working Children’s Nurse or RN with paediatric experience with good interpersonal and communication skills.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will contribute to the smooth and efficient running of the Children's Day surgery Unit.They will be responsible and accountable for professional evidence-based nursing care delivered to children and young people. Ensuring the highest quality, effective and compassionate care is received by the child, young person, and their families/ carers whilst on the unit.
Excellent, holistic, and individualised nursing care will be delivered through assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluating. This will be in line with Trust and National policies, procedures, values, and behaviours.
The post holder will support and promote a supportive learning environment in which to supervise and mentor student nurses, Trainee Nurse associates, and Healthcare Assistants. The post holder will take responsibility for their own training needs and remain updated with their mandatory training.
The post holder will act as an advocate whilst demonstrating effective communication and listening skills which are age appropriate for the child, young person and their families

Essential criteria
1. Registered paediatric nurse or RN with Paediatric experience
2. Experience in an NHS or UK healthcare setting
3. Knowledge of Child Protection Procedures Ability to use initiative
4. Ability to calculate complex drug dosages
5. Basic computer skills
6. Able to communicate using verbal and written skills
7. Knowledge of Band 5 role Understanding of Accountability and Responsibilities
Desirable criteria
8. Previous experience in relevant speciality
9. Portfolio evidence of post-basic learning
10. Safegaurding training Level 3
11. Mentorship training at Level 3 or equivalent
12. 18 months experience post qualified
13. Paediatric Immediate Life Support
14. RSCN / RN with Paediatric experience
15. IV Drug Administration, Venepuncture and Cannulation
16. Knowledge and experience of NHS IT systems/applications
17. To undertake supervisory role of students and new members of staff
