Key Responsibilities
* To work within the ophthalmology service to provide a high quality clinical and technical ophthalmic service supporting the ophthalmology clinics as part of the multi disciplinary team
* The post holder will be expected to assist the nursing team in providing specialist nursing care and ensure the ever-evolving service meets the needs of all patients
* To ensure that patients referred, assessed and treated in our clinics are treated in a safe, timely and efficient manner for a range of ophthalmic conditions including: Vitreo Retinal, Medical Retinal, Glaucoma, Cataract, Cornea and Ocular Plastic
* Act as the identified nurse for a group of patients by assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating their care
* Supervise more junior members of staff in giving and maintaining high standards of care
* Regularly take charge of the clinic in the absence of a more senior member of staff
* Demonstrate leadership in progressing the patients pathway
* Act as the patients advocate
* Liaise with all members of the multidisciplinary team
* To maintain the highest standards of infection control within the intravitreal treatment and imaging rooms. Ensure all staff involved in delivering care in that environment upholds the standards set
* Be clinically competent in all areas of advanced practice relevant to post
* Work to eliminate all avoidable infection by acting as a role model in infection and control prevention policies and procedures
* Take direct responsibility for ensuring cleaning standards are maintained throughout the shift when in charge
