The Transport & Yard Manager is responsible for the safe, compliant and efficient operation of both transport and yard activities at the Perth site. The role provides day‑to‑day operational leadership across a transport team of 6 drivers and a yard operation comprising 4 operatives and 1 Team Leader, ensuring activities are delivered in line with legal compliance, Enva safety standards and operational performance expectations. The postholder plays a critical role in maintaining site discipline, workflow efficiency, stock control, vehicle compliance, housekeeping standards and people management, while fostering a strong safety‑led culture across all operations. Key Responsibilities Transport Operations & Compliance Overall responsibility for the safe and compliant operation of the transport function at the Perth site. Ensure all drivers comply with road traffic legislation, driver hours, tachograph requirements and waste carriage regulations. Manage vehicle checks, defect reporting, servicing and MOT compliance. Monitor driver performance, hours, and attendance, intervening where trends or risks arise. Coordinate daily transport activity including route planning, scheduling, load movements and service delivery. Act as the site lead for transport audits, inspections and corrective actions. Yard Operations & Control Oversee all yard activities, ensuring safe, efficient movement, processing and storage of materials. Directly manage the Yard Team Leader and provide clear priorities and performance expectations. Ensure traffic management plans, segregation, housekeeping and material flows are fully adhered to. Maintain clear visibility of stock levels, throughput and capacity constraints. Ensure plant, equipment and yard assets are used safely and within operating guidelines. Address operational issues promptly to minimise downtime, congestion or safety risks. People Management & Leadership Line manage: Transport Team – 6 Drivers Yard Team – 4 Operatives Yard Team Leader – 1 Provide clear instruction, supervision and performance management across both functions. Manage attendance, timekeeping, conduct and capability issues in line with ENVA procedures. Ensure all staff receive appropriate training, inductions and safety briefings. Carry out investigations, return‑to‑work meetings and corrective coaching where required. Promote teamwork and cooperation between transport and yard functions. Health, Safety & Compliance Champion a safety‑first culture across transport and yard operations. Ensure compliance with: Health & Safety legislation Site risk assessments and safe systems of work PPE requirements and permit systems Lead on incident reporting, near misses and corrective actions. Deliver toolbox talks and reinforce site rules and behavioural standards. Actively challenge unsafe practices and escalate risks appropriately. Operational Performance & Continuous Improvement Monitor KPIs relating to safety, productivity, vehicle utilisation, yard efficiency and attendance. Identify and implement improvements to workflows, layouts, scheduling or resource deployment. Work closely with Site Management, Maintenance and Commercial teams to align operations. Support site audits, customer visits and internal compliance reviews. Contribute to operational planning during peak periods, outages or change initiatives. This is not an exhaustive list. You may also be required to carry out any other duties as required by the business that you are qualified/trained in that meet the requirements of this role Skills, Knowledge and Expertise Essential Experience Proven experience in a transport, yard or operational management role within waste, recycling, aggregates, logistics or heavy industry. Experience managing mixed operational teams, including drivers and yard staff. Strong understanding of transport compliance and site‑based operations. Qualifications CPC Transport Manager qualification – highly desirable. IOSH Managing Safely (or equivalent) – desirable. Full UK driving licence – essential. Knowledge & Skills Strong working knowledge of transport legislation and operational compliance. Practical understanding of yard operations, traffic management and material handling. Confident people manager with experience handling performance and conduct matters. Organised, decisive and able to manage competing operational priorities.
