Job Overview:
Control and instrumentation design engineering. Work includes studies, specification writing, layout development, design calculations and supervising vendor packages.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
1. Be accountable to both Project and Engineering Management as well as the Departmental Manager
2. Coordinate the required flow of design information between disciplines
3. Ensure the quality and technical integrity of the instrument and control design including: Defining the control and instrument philosophy including the technologies used Checking and approving of all types of design and requisitioning documentation Coordinating and liaising with third parties including vendors and clients
4. Provide input to Process P&ID development and discipline input to third-party packages
5. Review, checking and approval of third-party supplier drawings and documentation for all types of instrumentation and control system equipment.
6. Co-ordination and consolidation of third-party package data for ICSS input
7. Participate in Safety reviews including HAZOPS and SIL/LOPA meetings for SIS and HIPS scopes
8. Preparation and review of Instrument data sheets, specifications, and other miscellaneous Instrument documents
9. Preparation of ICSS IO estimates
10. Provide input to Change Management and preparation of estimates for potential design changes
11. Coordinate Instrument input to design related activities including model reviews and layout studies
12. Preparation and approval of technical bid evaluations and requisitions
13. Prepare execution plans and estimates for proposals
Essential Qualifications and Education
14. Accredited engineering degree, preferably MEng
15. Chartered Engineer (CEng) status
16. Member of a Professional Institution (e.g. IET, InstMC)
17. Typically 15 years of control and instrumentation design engineering experience
18. Experience of all project phases from conceptual design to construction and commissioning support
19. Experience of acting as the responsible engineer in charge of engineering major equipment or systems on projects
20. Comfortable with schedule planning and estimating workhour and material requirements
21. Demonstrable in-depth knowledge and understanding of control systems and field instruments
22. Familiarity with current codes and standards
23. Awareness of both current and emerging technologies
