We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Endoscopy Nurse to take on the role of Deputy Endoscopy Lead. Job Description
As the Deputy Endoscopy Lead, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the Endoscopy Lead Nurse with the day-to-day management and development of the endoscopy service. You will be instrumental in ensuring that patients consistently receive safe, effective, and compassionate care throughout their journey—from admission to discharge.
Your responsibilities will include assisting in the planning, delivery, and evaluation of endoscopy services, and working alongside the Lead Nurse to implement robust action plans following audits and service evaluations. You will help to oversee compliance with national standards, including Joint Advisory Group (JAG) accreditation, and contribute to the development and delivery of competency frameworks, standard operating procedures, and clinical training.
You will act as a role model to junior colleagues, providing clinical supervision and mentoring to support ongoing staff development. The role also includes leading on quality improvement initiatives, promoting best practice, and deputising for the Endoscopy Lead Nurse during periods of absence.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide safe and effective patient care, ensuring dignity, comfort and respect are upheld at all times
* Collaborate with the Endoscopy Lead to maintain and enhance service quality, including preparing for JAG accreditation
* Support the development and delivery of clinical education and staff competency training
* Supervise and mentor junior staff and student nurses within a multi-disciplinary team
* Ensure clear, compassionate, and professional communication with patients, families, and carers
* Promote collaborative teamworking and shared learning across the unit
* Manage shift planning, including supporting the design of rotas that meet operational needs
* Uphold high clinical standards and adhere to all hospital policies and regulatory frameworks
* Contribute to the implementation of quality improvement initiatives and patient safety measures
* Deputise for the Endoscopy Lead Nurse, including staff management responsibilities when required
Person Requirements
* Registered Nurse with current NMC registration
* Significant post-registration experience in endoscopy nursing, including exposure to leadership responsibilities
* A sound understanding of JAG standards and endoscopy best practices
* Proven ability to supervise and develop junior team members in a clinical setting
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with patients and colleagues
* A proactive, compassionate approach to patient care and service improvement
* Competent in designing and delivering staff training and induction programmes
* Ability to manage priorities, work autonomously when necessary, and act decisively in a clinical environment
* Committed to ongoing professional development and adherence to the NMC Code of Conduct
