Skilled Gardener – Part Time
A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and hands-on gardener to join a beautiful private estate near Dorking, Surrey. The current gardener is leaving after a wonderful 15 years with the owners. This permanent, part-time position offers the chance to work within well-established gardens, providing variety and satisfaction in a stunning rural setting. We are seeking a skilled gardener based locally, available to work 3 days per week. The role is offered on a PAYE basis.
The 4-acre gardens have been redesigned by renowned garden designer Chris Beardshaw and feature various garden rooms, a large kitchen garden, orchard, formal lawns, wildflower meadow, herbaceous borders, topiary, and a promenade of pleached lime trees with a swimming pool garden. The owners are open to ideas for further development, so creative candidates are encouraged.
General duties include pruning, propagating, weeding, edging, crop rotation, seasonal mulch, and compost management. Experience with gardening machinery, PA1 and PA6 spraying certificates, and chainsaw certification are desirable. The gardener should be capable of maintaining machinery.
Applicants should possess an RHS Level 2 or equivalent horticultural qualification and extensive experience managing a large estate garden. Essential skills include plant knowledge, propagation, spraying, weeding, and bed rejuvenation. The role requires a self-motivated, organized, physically fit individual willing to work in all weather conditions and extend duties as needed.
