Location: Bicester – based at our customer’s site.
The Role
A High Voltage (HV) Powertrain (PT) & Charging Systems Calibration Engineer is responsible for optimizing the performance, efficiency, safety, and user experience of electric vehicle (EV) charging systems and high-voltage components. This role involves developing and implementing control strategies for battery charging, DC fast charging, and HV system diagnostics.
Area of Responsibility
* Calibration Development: Turn advanced EV charging and HV powertrain control designs into robust, production‑ready calibrations using data from simulation, laboratory (HiL), and vehicle environments.
* System Optimization: Optimize HV system functionality, including battery management system (BMS) interfaces, inverter controls, and power electronics to enhance charging efficiency and speed.
* Charging Systems Validation: Validate charging functionality (AC/DC), including compliance with communication standards such as CCS, CHAdeMO, ISO 15118, and IEC 61851.
* Feature Development: Work with charging, battery, and software teams to define feature requirements, diagnostics, and controller communication strategies.
* Testing and Data Analysis: Develop test cases and perform data analysis to ensure high‑voltage components behave safely and consistently in all operating conditions.
* Issue Troubleshooting: Provide technical support to debug issues in vehicle‑level charging using tools like CANalyzer or Creta, driving improvements using Six Sigma or FMA techniques.
* Compliance and Safety: Ensure that all HV charging system calibrations meet legal requirements and safety standards.
Knowledge / Experience
* Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related field.
* Strong experience in high‑voltage system calibration, battery management systems, and electric powertrains.
* Calibration Tools: Proficiency in industry‑standard calibration tools, such as ETAS INCA, CANape, or MATLAB/Simulink.
* Charging Standards: Strong understanding of EV charging standards (CCS, ISO 15118, IEC 61851).
* Systems Engineering: Experience with Model‑Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and in‑vehicle testing (HIL, VIL).
* Problem Solving: Strong diagnostic skills for troubleshooting electrical and software‑level faults.
