HGV Fitter / HGV Technician

Location: Elstree / Biggleswade
Job Purpose
To maintain, service, and repair a fleet of heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) to ensure they are roadworthy, safe, and compliant with DVSA regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Perform routine maintenance and servicing of HGVs in accordance with manufacturer guidelines.
Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical faults.
Conduct MOT preparations and inspections.
Complete vehicle inspections and safety checks (PMIs).
Maintain accurate service records and job sheets.
Use diagnostic tools and software to identify issues.
Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
Respond to breakdowns and carry out roadside repairs when required.
Liaise with parts suppliers and order necessary components.
Required Qualifications & Experience
NVQ Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent).
Proven experience as an HGV technician/fitter.
Valid UK driving licence (HGV Class 1 or 2 preferred).
Good understanding of DVSA standards and vehicle compliance.
Experience with diagnostic equipment and software.
Desirable Skills
IRTEC accreditation.
Welding and fabrication skills.
Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
Working Conditions
Workshop-based with occasional roadside assistance.
May involve shift work, weekends, or on-call duties
