This is a temporary fixed term position from appointment until 31 March 2027. There is potential for this role to be extended beyond this date, and this will be confirmed during the appointment. Here is an exciting opportunity for someone to join our dynamic Housing & Neighbourhood Improvement Team. This fast-paced role will be at the forefront of the Council’s housing enforcement activity, ensuring compliance with legislation to drive property improvements. This role’s duties may include: Delivering Council-led proactive property improvement projects. Delivering statutory enforcement action to ensure compliance with a range of housing related legislation. Providing technical advice and support to private landlords, tenants, and homeowners. Responding to tenant complaints regarding private rented property conditions. Delivering House in Multiple Occupation (HMO) licencing. Supporting the delivery of the Wakefield Responsible Landlord Scheme. Investigating empty property complaints and taking enforcement action to bring properties back in to use. Delivering National Remediation Action Plan external wall insulation and fire safety enforcement action. Applicants will need to be flexible, enthusiastic, and effective team workers, with the ability to work from their own initiative and travel around the District inspecting properties. A knowledge of housing disrepair and the private rented sector, as well as holding or working towards a degree in Environmental Health or other relevant Housing qualification, is desirable but not essential as training will be provided. Experience of working in a frontline customer service role involving emotionally demanding and pressurised situations is essential. This is a career graded opportunity, and the appointment grade will be dependent on qualifications and experience. There is the potential for someone to join at grade 8 and develop their housing enforcement knowledge and skills and move to a higher grade or for someone with comprehensive housing enforcement experience and a relevant degree to join at grade 10 for example.
