The Crisis Resolution Home Treatment Team (CRHT) are looking to appoint a Specialty Doctor on a permanent basis to join their team. This is a replacement post joining the team responsible for the provision of Adult Mental Health Services for CRHT Team within the Neath Port Talbot area of the Health Board.

Adult Mental Health services are based in Swansea and Neath & Port Talbot. The advertised post covers the Adult Mental Health CRHT which is based at Neath Port Talbot Hospital.

The Health Board’s Adult Mental Health Services are divided into inpatient/crisis services (unscheduled care) and community services. The Neath Port Talbot CRHT is part of the unscheduled care model which comprises one inpatient mental health admission ward (Ward F, Neath Port Talbot Hospital), two Crisis Resolution Home Treatment Services, five Community Mental Health Teams (CMHT’s), three within Swansea and 2 within NPT. The CMHTs are multi professional with both Local Authority and Health Service Staff. The post-holder will be expected to work as part of a multi-disciplinary clinical team to ensure continuity of the care pathway from crisis/inpatient to community care.

Main duties of the job

You will provide a clinical service in conjunctions with your colleagues and under the direction of a Consultant Psychiatrist, which will include the responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness.

Working with your colleagues and the multi-professional team you will have continuing responsibility for the well-being of all patients under your care; allowing for proper delegation to, and training of staff. In partnership with clinical and managerial colleagues you will also have responsibility for the safe, efficient and effective functioning of the services in which you work in line with the values, operational policies and integrated medium term plan (IMTP) of the Health Board. You are encouraged to consider how services can be improved and to report any concerns about safety.

You may be expected to deputise for absent colleagues and in exceptional unforeseen circumstances may have to perform additional duties to ensure the safe running of the department.

You will be required to participate in the Health Board’s risk management process, clinical governance and any other healthcare governance activities within the department, the Mental Health & Learning Disabilities Unit and the Health Board.

The CRHT provides support, assessment and treatment for individuals experiencing an acute relapse of their Mental Health with the aim of providing safe alternatives to Acute admission.

Working for our organisation

Swansea Bay University Health Board has responsibility for the health of around 390,000 people in the Neath Port Talbot and Swansea areas, with a budget of around £1 billion and employing 12,500 people. We are a University Health Board working in partnership with Swansea University, Swansea School of Medicine, the School of Health Science and the Institute of Life Science. The HB has three major hospitals providing a range of services: Morriston and Singleton hospitals in Swansea and Neath Port Talbot hospital in Baglan, Port Talbot.

Mental Health and learning Disabilities services are provided both in hospital settings (Cefn Coed Hospital, Swansea Caswell clinic and Taith Newydd at Glanrhyd Bridgend) and other community settings.

We also have community hospital and primary care resource centres providing clinical services outside the main hospitals.

The Health Board is part of A Regional Collaboration for Health (ARCH), which is a partnership with Hywel Dda UHB and Swansea University. Aimed at improving the wellbeing and wealth of Southwest Wales.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

1. Registered with the GMC
2. Licensed to practice
3. Primary Medical Degree MBBS or equivalent
4. shall have completed at least four years’ full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty; or shall have equivalent experience and competencies.

6. Evidence of an ability to develop effective working relationships, on an individual and multi-disciplinary basis with all levels of staff (”Working Together”)

9. Development and commissioning of local mental health services services (what specific experience do you require of the post?)
10. Evidence of teaching and training of post/undergraduate clinical staff
