Job Overview Mechanical Supervisor is responsible for supervising the day-to-day maintenance operations within the hospital environment, with a strong focus on Health and Safety (H&S) and compliance as an Authorised Person (AP) for mechanical systems, ventilation and medical gases. This hands-on role ensures that systems and equipment are maintained safely and efficiently, with minimal disruption to hospital services. Main Duties Supervision of : o Oversee the execution of planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive repairs on mechanical systems. Ensure work is done safely and to a high standard. o Provide hands-on supervision to a team of technicians, ensuring they follow safety protocols, procedures, and technical standards. o Ensure that the mechanical team is effectively addressing all faults, breakdowns, and testing requirements, particularly those affecting critical hospital systems (e.g., operating theatres, ICU). o Assist in troubleshooting and diagnosing ensuring prompt resolution and within the contractual SLA o Regularly review the team's workload and prioritise tasks based on urgency and the impact on hospital operations Health & Safety (H & S) Focus: o Lead by example in maintaining a safety-first culture within the team, ensuring compliance with H & S regulations, including Permit to Work systems o Regularly inspect work sites and raise Hazard observations for any hazards that need addressing o Ensure that team members are trained on, and adhere to, the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and any issued, task required safety gear. Authorised Person : o Serve as the Authorised Person (AP) for mechanical systems o Issue and manage Permits to Work for mechanical activities, including high-risk tasks, ensuring that the correct safety measures are in place. o Ensuring all work is carried out according to strict safety procedures and Health Technical Memoranda (HTM) Technical Guidance & Support: o Provide technical supervision and troubleshooting support to the electrical team for complex issues, ensuring that repairs are completed efficiently and safely. o Ensure that team members are trained in fault-finding techniques and are competent to handle both routine and emergency repairs. What we are looking for Education & Certification: o Trained or qualified as an apprentice, or to an equivalent NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering o Successful completion of ONC/HNC in Engineering, NVQ, or C&G Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering o Authorised Person (AP) certification for Pressure systems, Medical Gases and Ventilation systems (or willingness to train to AP level). Experience: o Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in Mechanical maintenance, with a solid background in working with HVAC and Mechanical piped systems in a healthcare or other critical environment. o Experience as an Authorised Person (AP) or working towards AP status, particularly in the supervision of mechanical safety and isolation procedures. o Previous supervisory experience in leading a team of Mechanical Engineers, ensuring work is carried out safely and efficiently. Skills: o Strong technical knowledge of mechanical systems o Excellent supervisory skills o A strong understanding of risk management and the ability to conduct detailed risk assessments. o Using maintenance management systems for scheduling and record-keeping. o Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities effectively. Desirable: Familiarity with hospital standards and guidelines like HTMs and HBNs. Health & Safety qualifications (e.g., IOSH or NEBOSH) and a thorough understanding of relevant H&S legislation. First Aid certification. Working Conditions: Hospital environment with exposure to high-risk areas such as operating theatres and mechanical plant rooms.
