Prison Sports Tutor – HMP Millsike Help learners build skills, confidence, and a commitment to healthy living through sport. We’re looking for an energetic and passionate Sports Tutor to join the team at HMP Millsike. In this role, you’ll deliver NCFE Level 1 and Level 2 qualifications in Sports Coaching and Sport, helping learners build skills in fitness, health, and coaching that support their rehabilitation and future employability. Working closely with Prison PE Instructors and Learning Support Practitioners, you’ll create an inclusive, engaging learning environment that promotes healthy lifestyles and opens up new opportunities for personal growth. Whether it's motivating learners who’ve never succeeded in education before, or embedding literacy through fitness-focused content, you'll play a key role in transforming lives. What you’ll be doing: Deliver engaging and practical lessons in line with NCFE sports coaching qualifications Use adaptive teaching techniques to support learners with diverse needs, including neurodiverse learners Encourage active participation and healthy living while developing teamwork, communication, and employability skills Work with learners to set personalised learning goals and monitor their progress Collaborate with PE Instructors, Work & Skills Coaches, and the wider education team to ensure a joined-up approach to personal development Maintain a safe and inclusive learning space, embedding restorative practices and positive behaviour management Support literacy development and reading for pleasure, using sports content to build confidence with reading and writing What we’re looking for: A recognised teaching qualification (Level 3 or above – AET, PTLLS, CET or equivalent) A Level 3 qualification in Sport (or similar) Experience in delivering sports or fitness training, ideally with adults or in secure settings Ability to adapt teaching to meet a range of learning needs Confidence in promoting literacy, employability, and personal development through sports A calm, supportive, and engaging presence – someone who can lead by example and build positive relationships Knowledge of safeguarding, health and safety, and the needs of neurodiverse learners It would be great if you also have: A full Level 5 teaching qualification (or willingness to work towards one) Experience working in prisons or with learners who have additional support needs A good understanding of the Ofsted Education Inspection Framework This is a role where energy, empathy, and creativity go a long way.
