Overview

Expert Level Designer - Single Player at Activision — Guildford Studio, Guildford, United Kingdom. Sledgehammer Games, a leading developer in the Call of Duty franchise, seeks an experienced Single Player Level Designer to design, build and own bold levels for the campaign.


Responsibilities

* Design and create original, compelling level flows that serve the design and narrative direction while pushing the boundaries of a Call of Duty experience.
* Build blockouts for levels in our proprietary editor, ensuring they are engaging, readable, and visually grounded; collaborate with the art team to ensure visuals are compelling and grounded in reality.
* Script the full player experience in these spaces, including core progression, encounter setups, prototyping, setpiece choreography, narrative/cinematic integration, and world ambience.
* Own the quality, functionality and stability of your level through pre-production to final polish and bug fixing.
* Autonomously anticipate challenges and push quality, proactively identifying issues and proposing improvements.
* Research the game’s subject matter and stay aligned with the direction and narrative intentions.
* Collaborate with art, engineering, animation, VFX and audio teams to implement content and ensure the level vision is upheld.
* Iterate on your work based on feedback from directors, playtests and the wider team.
* Collaborate with team members in PST time zone as needed for knowledge sharing and feedback; participate in early-day meetings when schedules allow.
* Mentor junior designers, providing feedback and guiding best practices.
* Prioritize your time to meet deadlines, while working with production to plan and scope your level.


Qualifications

* Proven experience in level design with a portfolio demonstrating it.
* Strong interest in the Call of Duty series and single-player games, with a passion for innovation in this space.
* High expertise in creating clean, high-quality content in at least one level editor and scripting tool.
* Ability to conceptualize and communicate an engaging gameplay experience, with the technical ability to execute your vision.
* Strong critical thinking skills, able to critique your own work and articulate high-level themes from content and feedback.
* Self-motivated, autonomous, able to implement level improvements aligned with the game’s direction.
* Able to create level layouts that are beautiful and believable while serving experiential goals.
* Strong teamwork and communication skills, with an open and collaborative approach to feedback.


Extra Points

* Experience working in Radiant.
* Experience in written scripting languages (e.g., C#, JavaScript, Python).
* Experience in design for the first-person shooter genre.
* Strengths in another core discipline (e.g., environment art, animation, engineering).
* Familiarity with previous Call of Duty campaigns.


Work Arrangement

This is not a remote role. This is a hybrid position based in our Guildford Studio, offering flexibility with a combination of in-studio and remote workdays. Permanent remote work is not available for this position.
