Specialist Social Worker, Paediatric Metabolic Service

Are you an experienced Social Worker passionate about improving outcomes for children and young people?

We are seeking a dynamic individual who has an interest in working in a specialist and learning‑rich environment, who can demonstrate compassion and empathy for our children, young people and their families. The individual will be joining the multi‑professional team across both Nottingham and Leicester Children's Hospitals as part of the East Midland's Paediatric Metabolic Service.


Main duties of the job

As the Social Worker within the team, you will be a key member of the multidisciplinary metabolic team, working closely with consultants, dietitians, and allied professionals across hospitals and community settings. You will support children and their families through complex care pathways, helping them navigate clinical, emotional, and practical challenges.

Person Specification


Training and qualifications

* UK recognised qualification in social work e.g. BA Social Work, Diploma in Social Work
* Registered with Social Work England
* Knowledge and understanding of child and adolescent development
* Knowledge of childcare legislation, statutory guidance and safeguarding procedure
* Knowledge of disability benefits
* Evidence of CPD
* Knowledge of roles and responsibilities of key agencies working with young people
* Significant experience of social work – able to work independently
* Master's degree/working towards
* Management/leadership qualification or relevant experience


Experience

* Experience of working with children, young people and families with complex needs and long‑term illness
* Experience of safeguarding
* Experience of working in a multi‑professional team
* Experience of working with people with complex emotional needs
* Ability to work well under pressure
* Demonstrate understanding of quality assurance processes
* Experience of involving users in service development
* Experience of lone working
* Ability to respond to unpredictable work patterns and interruptions
* Ability to work with professionals across different disciplines and workplaces
* Experience of dealing with bereavement
* Experience of research and audit
* Experience/understanding of inherited metabolic disorders

* Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, written and oral

* Be able to attend hospital sites/patient homes within the East Midlands in a timely manner
* UK driving licence
