Electrical Trade Manager - 18-Month Fixed Term / Secondment Opportunity
Contract: Fixed Term / Secondment - 18 months
Ready to step up and make a real impact?
We're looking for a motivated and experienced professional to lead our fast-paced, high-performing Response and Planned Electrical Team on an 18-month secondment. This is a fantastic opportunity to take on a leadership role in a critical service, playing a vital part in shaping the future of electrical maintenance across Bristol City Council's housing stock.
What you'll be doing
As Electrical Trade Manager, you'll take the lead in delivering a variety of electrical workstreams-from responsive repairs to planned maintenance and compliance testing. You'll manage a skilled and dedicated team, including supervisors, quality control engineers, electricians, and apprentices.
Your day-to-day will involve:
* Leading and supporting the delivery of safe, high-quality maintenance, repairs, and installations in both domestic and communal properties.
* Overseeing fleet management, materials procurement, supplier relationships, onboarding of new builds, and team HR matters (including performance, training, and recruitment).
* Monitoring and reporting on service delivery to ensure value for money and consistent high standards.
* Working with colleagues across M&E, Voids, Damp & Mould, and Repairs and Maintenance to deliver joined-up services.
* Ensuring full compliance with Health & Safety and CDM regulations across all in-house electrical work.
* You'll also play a key role in forecasting future maintenance and investment needs-helping shape the council's long-term housing strategy and compliance ambitions.
What we're looking for:
We're after someone with a strong background in electrical services, ideally holding a vocational qualification or HNC/HND (or equivalent), and with practical experience in leading teams or managing projects.
You'll also bring:
* Proven leadership and team management skills.
* Experience in delivering and coordinating electrical repairs and maintenance.
* A forward-thinking mindset with a drive to innovate and improve services.
* Confidence in problem-solving and the ability to thrive in a fast-moving and sometimes uncertain environment.
* Whether you're already in management or stepping up from a supervisory role, this could be your next big move.
Why work with us?
* At Bristol City Council, we're proud of the work we do-and the people who do it. We offer:
* A fast-paced, supportive work environment
* Generous annual leave and flexible working options, including hybrid arrangements
* Access to the Local Government Pension Scheme
* Ongoing professional development opportunities
* A chance to make a real difference for the people of Bristol
