Job Description
The Assessor for Ayrshire Valuation Joint Board is responsible for compiling and maintaining the Valuation Roll (all non-domestic properties in Ayrshire liable for business rates) and the Valuation List (all dwellings in Ayrshire liable for Council Tax).
We are keen to hear from talented graduate trainee surveyors interested in pursuing a career as a rating surveyor within one of the country’s most scenic regions. Applicants should hold a RICS-accredited degree (or equivalent) and be a student member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (Valuation Faculty).
We offer the opportunity to join our team with potential for long-term career progression and support through the Assessment of Professional Competence process.
You will handle a varied workload, including survey and valuation of lands and heritages for the Lands Valuation Acts and the Local Government Finance Act 1992.
You will also discuss and negotiate appeals with taxpayers and agents, prepare cases for the First-Tier Tribunal, and may appear as an expert witness.
Applicants should have excellent communication skills, a positive and professional attitude, and the ability to multi-task. Ability to work independently or as part of a team and meet deadlines is essential.

Who We Are and What We Do
Ayrshire Valuation Joint Board has been established since 1996, serving North, South, and East Ayrshire valuation authorities.
The Board is a separate council, comprising 16 elected members from the three authorities.
The Board appoints the Assessor, responsible for maintaining the Valuation Roll and List, essential for collecting non-domestic rates and council tax.
The Assessor is also the Electoral Registration Officer, managing the Register of Electors for elections.
