Our Children and Young People’s CAMHS Eating Disorder Service is looking to recruit an enthusiastic, highly motivated Mental Health Practitioner to work with children and young people with eating disorders, and their families. We are a specialist multi-disciplinary eating disorders service for young people and their families, providing evidence-based treatment approaches in clinics across the Trust. We are a compassionate, supportive team, committed to empowering young people and their families so that they can keep well in the community.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will be offered the opportunity for training in family therapy for eating disorders and continued professional development within a well‑established multi‑disciplinary service. Our service has a strong commitment to professional development through individual supervision, training, appraisal and an ethos of close multi‑disciplinary working.

The post is a permanent role and full‑time hours. We will also consider part time hours. The applicant will need to be able to travel to sites across the county.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

1. To work as an integral member of the Specialist Eating Disorder Team as part of CAMHS, providing comprehensive mental health assessments to clients and their families and providing a range of direct work and evidence‑based therapeutic intervention.
2. To have the ability to utilize specialist knowledge to make decisions about a child or young person’s mental health needs.
3. To participate in the planning and delivery of evidence‑based therapeutic programmes, family‑based interventions, multi‑family groups and parenting support programmes as the service develops.
4. To work with Young People up until the age of 18 years, ensuring a continuation of mental health services, between local CAMHS provision and adult mental health provision.
5. To provide speedy assessment and intervention in partnership with other local Children’s Services.
6. To work towards early intervention and prevention for young people with significant mental health difficulties and emerging eating disorders.
7. Through an evidence based clinical approach, reduce the mental and physical health risks to young people, and help them to enhance their mental health.
8. Primary emphasis will be given to direct clinical work, but an important part of the role will be to provide consultation and liaison, training and support to other Children and Young Peoples professionals.
9. To participate in the team’s use of routine outcome monitoring to inform service design across the pathway and wider CAMHS.
10. To educate and involve children and young people and family/carers, in their care/support plan and provide opportunities or service users to contribute to assessment and the development of service provision.

Please note for this role you will be required to travel independently around the county meeting strict time deadlines. You will need to hold a full UK driving licence* and have use of a vehicle. You cannot use public transport for this role as this is not a reliable form of transport and will not allow you to meet service needs. Person specification


Education / Qualifications

* A recorded/registered qualification in one of the following at graduate level: nursing, social work, occupational therapy, arts therapy or within a psychological therapy.
* Training in an evidence‑based therapeutic intervention recommended by NICE Guidelines relevant to CAMHS and eating disorder clients, i.e. Systemic Therapy CBT.


Experience

* Post‑qualification experience in assessment and treatment with Child and Adolescent families.
* Experience of Multidisciplinary and multi‑agency working
* Experience working with families
* Experience of assessing young people with eating disorders within a community setting
* Experience of group work
* Experience of teaching groups of professionals.


Skills & Abilities

* Able to demonstrate commitment to high quality care and service provision
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
* Willingness and ability to participate as independent practitioner in assessments
* Ability to assess and treat children and young people and families with mental health and psychological difficulties.
* Knowledge and understanding of Child and Adolescent Mental Health
* Sound knowledge of the Trust’s and Local Safeguarding policy and procedures


Other

* Ability to travel independently around Cambridgeshire and Peterborough area meeting required timescales. A Full driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential
