CAMHS Consultant Psychiatrist & Medical Director
We have an excellent full‑time opportunity at Cygnet Bury Forestwood. As Medical Director you will be the Responsible Clinician on our 8‑bed CAMHS PICU service for young people aged 12‑18 with severe mental illness.
Main duties of the job
Cygnet Bury Forestwood offers CAMHS Tier 4 PICU, General Acute and Low Secure services across four wards. The service provides a defined treatment pathway from admission through to intervention and discharge, including rapid assessment and treatment.
Each service user has a bedroom with en‑suite facilities and communal spaces such as a gym, laundry, occupational therapy kitchen, therapy garden and woodland walkways that lead to the Elton Reservoir.
The on‑site Forestwood School offers a diverse educational programme. Cygnet has been delivering specialist mental health services for more than 30 years, achieving good or outstanding ratings in 85 % of inspections.
Job responsibilities
As Medical Director (0.2 WTE) and Consultant Psychiatrist (0.8 WTE) you will:
* Ensure optimal clinical outcomes for patients and oversee care of all ward inpatients.
* Audit and maintain medical services in accordance with GMC standards.
* Provide leadership and supervision for medical staff, including consultants, SDs and ASs.
* Lead on clinical practice, operational excellence and compliance with internal and external standards.
* Engage in clinical governance, recruitment, and implementation of CQC outcomes.
* Chair medical advisory committee meetings and liaise with the Regional Medical Director.
* Lead the implementation of risk assessment, management and embed clinical governance within the service.
* Maintain patient records, conduct audits, manage ward rounds and reviews.
* Support the multidisciplinary team, including nurses, psychologists and occupational therapists.
* Attend academic meetings, contribute to CPD and maintain professional standards under GMC, Department of Health and Royal College of Psychiatrists.
* Participate in telephone on‑call rota as required.
* Carry out any other responsibilities as directed by the Hospital Manager.
Qualifications
* Fully GMC registered & MBBS (or equivalent) qualified.
* Registered on the specialist register (CCT/CESR), Section 12, and AC status.
* Experience in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
* Knowledge of Mental Health Act, Code of Practice, Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Code of Capacity.
* Strong communication skills; ability to interview, assess, treat and write comprehensive notes.
* Commitment to continued professional development.
* Ability to work effectively within a multi‑disciplinary team.
* Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) or equivalent.
