Job Summary

As an integrated Mental Health, Learning Disability and Community Trust, Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust provides a range of services including:

Primary and secondary mental health care for children and adults including specialist in-patient child and adolescent mental health provision, perinatal mental health, forensic services including low and medium secure care.
Specialist community support for children and adults with learning disabilities and autism, including intensive support.
Community physical health and well-being services for children and adult

Lancashire & South Cumbria Foundation Trust are looking to develop our current Child and Youth Justice Service mental health offer, and we are currently recruiting to cover North Lancashire and South Cumbria Area and Fylde and Wyre and South Cumbria

The purpose of the role is to provide a CAMHS service to the Child and Youth Justice Service as required by Crime and Disorder act 1998, to ensure children and young people in contact with youth justice service are provided with mental health services.

The CYJS worker will compliment an existing coordinated approach by developing and supporting systems to ensure that when a young person enters the youth justice system, the CYJS has within it the skill and capacity to ensure that their mental health needs are taken into consideration and addressed effectively.

Experience of working with young people in a youth justice setting is essential

Main duties of the job

Carry out assessment of children's mental health and emotional well-being. This could include risk assessments related to self-harm and suicidal ideation.
Provide short-term interventions and support for children experiencing mental health difficulties who are involved with the CYJS teams.
Participate in group work programmes with children relating to issues associated with emotional wellbeing and mental health difficulties.
When more intensive/specialist services are required, refer children to either Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service or Adult Mental Health Services.
Provide consultation and advice to other Child and Youth Justice Service members regarding mental health of children.
Act as an advocate for children who are in need of specialist support and interventions from either Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service or Adult Mental Health Services.
Proactively remain up to date and professionally accountable to the code of conduct of either the NMC or other relevant professional body for disciplines outside of nursing.
Provide cross cover to North and Central Lancs.
Be willing to attend clinical and non-clinical meetings across LSCft footprint.
Able to meet travel requirements of the role.
