Hours and Contract
We are recruiting to two fixed‑term positions: one on a 12‑month fixed‑term contract, and the other on a fixed‑term contract until 1 August 2027. Successful candidates may be offered either contract depending on business requirements and individual circumstances. Contract length will be confirmed prior to appointment.
Role
The Fingerprint Officer will be a vital part of delivering a comprehensive fingerprint identification service for the force. Your expertise in identifying marks at crime scenes will play a crucial role in detecting offenders and reducing crime.
What you’ll do
* Analyse, compare and evaluate fingerprint details to provide evidential opinions and interpretations to officers.
* Attend crime scenes to advise and assist crime scene investigators when recovering fingerprint evidence, including obtaining prints from cadavers.
* Perform manual comparison, maintain quality standards, and manage records to enhance service delivery.
* Attend training and learning events to develop professionally and maintain personal competency in line with forensic accreditation requirements, and support the development of trainees and operational officers, including those from Durham Constabulary, to strengthen forensic capabilities.
* Ensure compliance with ISO 17025 forensic accreditation through audits, witness tests, and maintaining competency.
What you’ll bring
* Undergraduate qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g. forensic science) or demonstrated vocational experience within a forensic field.
* Strong time‑management skills, able to plan and manage time effectively and prioritise workloads to meet customer needs and tight timescales.
* Ability to remain calm and accurate under pressure, utilising organisational and administrative skills.
* Effective teamwork skills to collaborate as part of a team to achieve successful outcomes.
* Strong communication skills, able to communicate to a wide range of stakeholders and customers.
