About Us

Amplify Education is a dynamic new multi-academy trust of 22 schools across Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset, formed through the thoughtful and planned merger of TiLA and CST. United by a shared vision, we are a bold voice for Bristol - committed to building belief in every young person, expanding opportunities, nurturing potential, and strengthening citizenship.

We are ambitious, reflective, and collaborative - driven to improve outcomes for young people while working together, learning from one another and continually strengthening our practice. If you are looking to make a real difference within a forward-thinking and supportive Trust, Amplify Education could be the place for you.

We invite you to join our team at St Katherine’s School. St Katherine’s is an oversubscribed and successful school with a strong sense of community. The school was rated Good by Ofsted in December 2021. We are a community school without a faith designation and welcome applicants from all backgrounds, beliefs, and religions. Diversity and inclusivity are at the heart of the St Katherine’s community.

Our mission:

We are St Katherine’s — a nurturing and inclusive community, united in the pursuit of excellence

We are located in a beautiful rural setting on the edge of Bristol. Our thriving, diverse community is founded on our core values of respect, responsibility and resilience; we actively encourage everyone within our community to ‘live and breathe’ our values every day. The school aims to create an environment where all students feel confident, secure and valued to help them perform at their best.

Our ambition is to achieve an average grade of 5.5 and 0.35+ VA in our sixth form: our work is focused on creating the conditions where every student, regardless of context, can achieve success.

We are committed to continuous professional learning and offer both internal and external leadership training including the NPQML and NPQSL programmes, leader profiling and shadowing opportunities. Coaching is embedded within our school to support and develop teaching alongside leadership and career progression for all staff. In addition, we actively promote opportunities for Trust wide working and collaboration across the trust is integral to our development.

The Opportunity

Head of Media/Teacher of English

Full time

TMS/UPS plus TLR 2 A £3527

Start date: 1 September 2026

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and inspirational teacher of English and Media studies to join our English team as Head of Media and lead the development, delivery and evaluation of the Media specialism. An exciting opportunity for a creative and aspirational practitioner, this post involves leadership of A Level Media and development of media literacy across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. We are particularly interested in original thinkers who are able to see how media literacy, for example, knowledge and understanding of narrative theories, can enhance outcomes in Key Stage 4 English.

A Level Media Studies is a highly popular course in our post 16 offer. This post offers an excellent opportunity for a talented teacher looking to take on leadership responsibilities and would be suitable for either a Media specialist or an English specialist with the ability or potential to teach Media. Experience in media studies at KS5 level is desirable but we also welcome applications from those without prior A level experience, who possess the knowledge and ability to learn quickly. Professional development opportunities and support can be provided for the right candidate.

The successful candidate will be joining a creative and dedicated team characterised by high support, high challenge and a willingness to develop as professionals through sharing good practice with one another. The English Faculty foster a pro-active culture of collaboration and reflective practice that has students’ well-being and success at its heart.

We believe in educating young people not only for their academic success, but to be powerful citizens. English is at the heart of this and our students are passionate about the written and spoken word. We teach challenging texts in mixed prior attainment sets and believe in the power of developing our students’ cultural capital alongside their reading and writing skills. In the current global climate, media literacy and an understanding of how narratives are controlled and constructed is more important than ever. If you share this vision and seek to empower the next generation of change-makers to be confident communicators, we look forward to receiving your application.

About You

Candidates must be passionate about teaching: committed to improving the learning outcomes of all students; able to demonstrate the ability to deliver high quality teaching and inspire and motivate young people to achieve outstanding outcomes.
