We are looking for an adaptable, team-oriented person to be our Junior Chemist working within the Flavours Team.You will be joining a young and enthusiastic team of scientists, marketing, sales and support staff within our premises in Leatherhead. This role is based within our labs at our offices in Leatherhead, Surrey.Role scopeKey responsibilitiesAssist with the Production of flavour standardsMonitor and maintaining chemical stocksMonitoring and assisting with the production of flavour standard complexes using cyclodextrins (nanochemistry) – working with the Flavours teamCalibration of all equipment in the flavour laboratories and making sure all servicing is done in a timely manner and all certification is up to dateMaintaining stock of all chemicals, chemical register and all associated HACCP documentationDilution of manufactured flavours with excipients (sugar or cyclodextrins) to produce accurate and specific levels of flavour suitable for various sectorsSupport the team with actions and technical issuesMonitoring and procurement of supplies for the flavours teamComputer input of production information into the internal systemGood hygiene and housekeeping practicesAssist with all other flavour related tasksWeighing of chemical ingredients used in the manufacture of flavour standards and assisting with the overall production of finished capsules and capsulets for multiple food and beverage sectors e.g.Cleaning and storage of capsule fillers – including maintenance, review and servicing contractsMaintain and update procedures within the flavours teamWork as part of the flavours team on a variety of production, testing, formulation, dispensing and packaging tasksEntry of data for certified flavour standard pots onto our internal software systemsOrganization of roller racking and stockAdherence to ISO9001:2015 and contribute to the enhancement and maintenance of these proceduresGeneral practicesGood health and safety practicesHACCPStock checkingWork as part of the flavour production team on any tasks associated with their production from formulation through to packaging.To assist in maintaining service and maintenance records of all laboratory equipment and to ensure that all equipment is serviced and ready for useTo maintain good, friendly and professional relationships internally and externallyWhat we’re looking forQualifications and experienceEssential:Minimum of 1 year experience in a laboratory environmentDegree educated in Chemistry, Food Science, Pharmaceutical Science or related industriesDesired:Experience in food, beverage or pharmaceutical-related industry advantageousFamiliarity with ISO, GMP & Quality standards advantageousPersonal characteristicsGood numeracy skillsGood language skills – e.g. ability to follow written instructionsGood communication skills – e.g. ability to listen to and carry out verbal instructions accuratelyWillingness to learnGood work ethicExcellent organisation skillsGood problem solving and decision-making skillsWhat we offerRegular company events (rotating between external and internal) – such as bowling, axe throwing, rowing, crazy golf and more!26 days holiday plus bank holidaysLondon Living Wage EmployerA diverse and energetic working environment in a new modern facility10 days full sick pay and 10 days halfBereavement leaveFlexible working hoursPension – with salary sacrifice optionSubscription fees to professional bodiesPersonal development courses and opportunity to sit industry qualifications e.g. Cicerone, IBD, IFST, WSET etc
