Working as a Prisoner Custody Officer (PCO) in Prisoner Escort Custody Services (PECS) is more than just a role—it’s an opportunity to be part of a professional team that plays a vital role in the justice system, ensuring safety and security every day. We also offer:

We operate 24/6 with early and late shifts, 35hrs pw. Flexibility is essential, with various working arrangements and additional hours. A rota (provided 12 weeks in advance) allows flexibility for time off.
About the Role:
As a PCO, you’ll work in a team to provide secure escorting and custody services, focusing on detainee wellbeing. Responsibilities include:
* Escorting defendants within court premises, including ensuring security during bathroom visits, possibly handcuffed.
* Supervising detainees during court sessions to ensure safety.
* Handling sensitive information with discretion, supporting detainees emotionally while maintaining professionalism.
* Providing food and support for detainees, monitoring health, and reporting concerns.
* Ensuring court security, conducting searches, and responding to incidents.
* Completing accurate paperwork and data entry.
* Collaborating with court staff, law enforcement, and legal professionals.
What you need to do the job!
Previous experience isn’t necessary; commitment to making a difference is. Training will be provided. A valid driver’s license, good communication skills, and physical fitness are preferred. The role requires responsibility, vigilance, and professionalism, especially when managing challenging situations. Interest in criminology or psychology is beneficial.

Additional Information:
Roles are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and subject to enhanced background checks. The role isn’t eligible for Skilled Worker visa sponsorship. Candidates must have at least two years on current visa and have resided in the UK for at least one year.
