GSL Education is seeking a caring and resilient Primary SEMH Teaching Assistant to work in a welcoming school in Kendal. This role is ideal for someone with a calm and compassionate nature who is ready to support children facing emotional or behavioural challenges.
Role Overview:
As a Primary SEMH TA, you will work one-to-one or with small groups of pupils, helping them access learning while providing consistent emotional and behavioural support. You’ll play a vital role in creating a safe, structured, and encouraging learning environment.
Responsibilities:
* Support children with SEMH needs, helping them engage in learning and build positive relationships.
* Implement strategies and behaviour support plans under the guidance of the SENCO and class teacher.
* Provide regular encouragement and emotional regulation support.
* Monitor and report on progress and well-being.
* Work collaboratively with staff, families, and outside professionals where appropriate.
Requirements:
* Previous experience supporting children with SEMH or behavioural needs is essential.
* A good understanding of trauma-informed or restorative approaches.
* Strong communication, empathy, and behaviour management skills.
* Ability to remain calm and consistent under pressure.
* Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
* A full, up-to-date CV with explanations for any gaps in employment in the last 10 years.
