The Home
Blair House Care Home is a registered nursing home with a newly opened mental health unit. The home has a total of 85 beds: 21 mental health, 20 residential dementia, 15 nursing dementia and 29 frail and elderly nursing.
The Role
As part of a compassionate team, you will play a crucial part in helping to provide the best quality of life for the people we support.
Main Responsibilities
* Manage unpredictable and distressing situations in a calm and logical way
* Participate in activities, motivating and supporting residents to get involved
* Assist residents with eating, drinking, washing, dressing and going to the toilet
* Assess and observe the emotional and physical wellbeing of residents, recognising changes and reporting as necessary in a timely manner
* Maintain accurate records, communicating effectively with residents and their families
You will need:
* to be a good listener, showing patience, compassion, empathy and understanding
* have a basic understanding of the main mental health conditions experienced by residents
* previous experience preferred – this can be on a voluntary basis or experience gained caring for a friend or family member with mental ill-health
* to be NISCC registered or eligible to register
