Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Concrete Technician to join our infrastructure team, supporting a major long-term construction project in Sellafield. The successful candidate will work within a UKAS-accredited Materials Laboratory, contributing to the quality assurance and control of concrete materials used throughout the site. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in one of the UK's most significant infrastructure developments while working alongside industry professionals in a collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Attend concrete pours across the project site to collect samples and perform field tests.
* Sample fresh concrete from truck mixers and conduct tests for workability, temperature, and other specifications.
* Record and maintain accurate data related to test results and delivery schedules.
* Transport samples from the construction site to the laboratory for further analysis.
* Prepare, cure, and test concrete cube specimens for compressive strength.
* Clean and maintain testing equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability.
* Assist with testing and sampling of concrete aggregates.
* Install thermocouples and monitor concrete hydration temperatures within structural elements.
* Support additional tasks as directed by the laboratory manager.
* Carry out all testing to current European standards for fresh and hardened concrete and aggregates.
* Work both outdoors on-site and indoors within the laboratory environment.
Requirements
* Basic literacy and numeracy skills, equivalent to GCSE standard.
* A valid UK driving license.
* CSCS card (or willingness to obtain one prior to starting).
* Willingness to work in both laboratory and outdoor site conditions.
* Commitment to learning and following established testing procedures and standards.
* Strong attention to detail and ability to record accurate information.
* Good communication and teamwork skills.
Preferred Qualifications
* Previous experience with reinforced concrete construction or materials testing.
* Knowledge of relevant construction regulations, materials, and testing standards.
* A proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
