Job Overview
We are looking for a motivated and experienced delivery suite coordinator midwife to join the practice education and development team for 6 months maternity leave cover. The successful applicant will be responsible for intrapartum and MAU education and support the delivery of the maternity education programme.
The midwife will work 11.5 hours per week on Delivery in the Band 7 coordinator role.
Main duties of the job
Practice Educators are central to assisting midwives and learners to enhance the quality of the clinical learning environment, supporting colleagues in pursuing their on-going professional development activities
The post holder will work as an autonomous practitioner to lead the development and co-coordination of clinical skills and training programmes to meet the educational and development needs of the maternity team.
The Practice Educator will work the clinical leads and ward managers to address on-going training requirements for midwives and support workers.

Managerial
Demonstrate a positive attitude and high level of motivation by showing a strong commitment to the maternity service.
Be accountable for midwifery performance and achievement of all Organisational targets and standards, working within the Trust's governance framework and current regulatory and policy requirements. To be aware of local and national guidance for maternity services.
Demonstrate excellent personal communication by establishing effective links with the multi professional education team.
To demonstrate that women and family are involved in both decisions affecting their care and wellbeing and in service development. To practice in accordance with professional, ethical and legal codes of Nursing and Midwifery Council, Trust protocols and guidelines. To be accountable for own practice and for the delegation of care that is given to more junior colleagues, support workers, or students.
Prioritise workload to meet targets. To be able to work under pressure by seeking creative solutions to challenges. Ensure that the department manager and Matron are alerted to any quality issues that may affect both women/relatives and staff.
To be responsible for ensuring clinical practice is in line with Data Protection/Confidentiality/Caldicott principles. To ensure communication networks are in place to share confidential information across organisational boundaries where appropriate.
To actively promote diversity, both in the delivery of the care group services and in the recruitment, management and development of staff within the clinical areas. Clinical And Technical
Demonstrate specialist expertise and professional knowledge acquired through post registration academic, clinical, leadership and management development. To work as a role model for professional practice and understands the impact of poor performance
To work in collaboration with the Lead PDM, Matron and clinical leads/ward managers/other practice development team members to develop and monitor performance, clinical outcomes to help improve and develop high standards of care for women. To place the woman's experience at the core of service delivery. To monitor and audit the quality of care through a range of strategies, including risk management incident reporting, complaints, research and effectiveness monitoring and clinical audit.
To practice in accordance with NMC code and professional guidelines, Trust policies, protocols.
To ensure that the interests and well-being of babies are paramount whilst continuing to act as an advocate for the mother.
To be accountable for communication and dissemination of information as appropriate to midwives/other health professionals/agencies
Teaching And Training
To ensure that newly appointed midwifery staff have appropriate orientation and induction programmes to be able to work effectively in their clinical area
To be a reflective practitioner and be able to support midwives in their own development by using this skill
To work with multi-disciplinary team to enable research/evidence based women centered and cost effectiveness of care
To work as part of the practice development team to deliver multi-disciplinary training. To have the ability to understand how adults learn and therefore be able to tailor the learning environment appropriately
This role will focus on the Intrapartum and MAU areas and therefore the post holder will need to be able to respond to training and development needs of midwives within the parameters of these areas of the service
To work in practice with newly appointed or newly qualified midwives helping to facilitate their midwifery skills
Role Responsibilities
To cultivate an open and honest culture where staff feel able to raise concerns and share good practice through positive role modelling. To take ownership of problems and seek to influence any change management that may have a negative impact on the working area
To be involved in the recruitment and retention programme for the maternity service
To develop own skills, taking responsibility for continuing professional development and performance. To maintain own portfolio in accordance with post registration requirements. To achieve competencies appropriate to grade and identify any development needs in relation to current practice and future plans by setting own personal development objectives.
To audit and evaluate the service provided.
To understand the Trust objectives and promote the Trust values
In conjunction with the other practice development team members assist the ward managers/university link teachers by using data from higher education establishment to evaluate learning. This will be through midwifery quality and audit reporting, complaints and clinical governance to underpin the annual training needs analysis.
The post holder will contribute to the development of midwifery practice by undertaking x hour clinical shift each week
The post holder will take part in the on call rota for managers to provide support to midwives and support workers
To assist with setting learning outcomes for midwives undergoing any supported practice to monitor progress
Other Responsibilities
Takes responsibility for attending statutory and mandatory training in accordance with the Trust's training needs analysis and mandatory training matrix. Makes effective use of eLearning opportunities to achieve compliance with mandatory training.
Takes responsibility for own continuing professional development and performance, maintaining own portfolio in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council's revalidation requirements. Is able to identify own development needs in relation to current practice and future plans, setting personal development objectives.
The post holder is aware that their role includes exposure to biohazards and other potentially unpleasant materials and takes responsibility for protecting themselves and others where appropriate through implementation of measures such as universal precautions and equipment/material supplied by their employer for such use.
