SEND Teaching Assistant – Sunderland
Specialist Autism Setting | Full-Time | September Start
We’re looking for a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to join a specialist autism provision in Sunderland this September.
This is a school that works exclusively with pupils who have Autism Spectrum Conditions and associated communication and learning needs — creating a structured, nurturing environment where every young person can feel safe, supported, and valued.
If you’re calm, patient, and passionate about supporting neurodivergent pupils, this could be the role where you make a lasting difference.
Your role will include:
* Supporting pupils with Autism and associated needs, both in class and through one-to-one support
* Helping pupils develop communication skills, confidence, and independence
* Assisting with structured routines, sensory needs, and emotional regulation
* Working closely with specialist teachers, therapists, and support staff
We’re looking for someone who:
* Has experience working with SEND or in a specialist autism setting
* Brings a calm, understanding approach and strong relationship-building skills
* Is confident supporting communication and behaviour needs
* Can commit to a full-time role from September
* Is Thrive trained or willing to complete training with Protocol Education

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
