We’re looking for a Research Assistant to join the Sanders Research Group at the Institute of Developmental & Regenerative Medicine (IDRM), part of the Department of Paediatrics at the University of Oxford. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to impactful research into the genetic and molecular basis of neurodevelopmental disorders, while supporting the development of emerging genetic therapies.

About the Role
The Sanders Group, led by Prof. Stephan Sanders, is internationally recognised for research into rare genetic disorders, neurodevelopmental delay, and autism. The group plays a leading role in the Medical Research Council (MRC) Centre of Research Excellence (CoRE) in Therapeutics Genomics, which aims to accelerate the translation of genomic discoveries into targeted therapies.
As a Research Assistant, you will support a diverse portfolio of projects exploring the neurobiology, genetics, and molecular mechanisms underlying neurodevelopmental disorders. Your work will span both laboratory and analytical activities, contributing to experimental research using molecular biology, cell culture, and sample processing techniques.
You will maintain accurate laboratory records, support data analysis, help prepare materials for publications, contribute to research design, and ensure the smooth running of laboratory operations. As part of a collaborative and multidisciplinary team, you’ll work closely with senior researchers, clinicians, and international partners, including colleagues at UCSF.
This is a hands‑on, varied role blending practical laboratory science, data handling, problem‑solving, and teamwork—ideal for someone motivated to grow their research experience in a world‑leading academic environment.
About You
You will hold a first degree in a biological or biomedical science and have practical experience with core laboratory techniques such as DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, qPCR, and cell culture. You will bring strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and a clear understanding of molecular or neurobiological research methods.
You will be an effective communicator who can work independently and collaboratively, contribute to data collection and analysis, and support the interpretation of experimental results. Experience with next‑generation sequencing data, bioinformatics tools, or clinical research environments is highly desirable but not essential.
A proactive approach, a commitment to high research standards, and enthusiasm for contributing to genetics and neuroscience research will help you thrive in this role.
