Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant Location: Rotherham (S25) Salary: £460 – £600 per week Contract Type: Full time, long-term / Day-to-day Start Date: Immediately Are you passionate about supporting children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? A welcoming school in the Rotherham (S25) area is seeking a committed and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to support pupils in reaching their full potential within a structured and nurturing environment. Staff work collaboratively to deliver consistent support and positive outcomes for every learner. About the Role: As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with students who require additional emotional and behavioural support, helping them to engage positively with learning and school life. You will play a key role in promoting a supportive classroom environment and assisting teachers in delivering tailored interventions. Responsibilities: • Support students with SEMH needs on a one-to-one or small group basis, promoting engagement and emotional regulation. • Assist the class teacher in delivering structured lessons and targeted interventions. • Help manage behaviour using positive behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques. • Build strong, trusting relationships with students to encourage confidence and independence. • Monitor and record student progress, behaviour, and well-being. • Work collaboratively with teachers, SEN staff, and external professionals where required. Qualifications: • Previous experience supporting children with SEMH or additional needs is desirable. • A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach to supporting challenging behaviours. • Strong communication and teamwork skills. • Ability to remain calm and consistent in a fast-paced environment. • A genuine passion for supporting young people with additional needs.
