Specialist Clinical Pharmacist

Contract: Fixed‑term until 31.10.2026 – covering maternity leave
Salary: Band 7 (£47,810 – £54,710 p.a. pro‑rata)
Hours: Full‑time 37.5 hrs per week, with flexible working options offered to eligible MKUH roles
Overview
We invite a specialist pharmacist to join our forward‑thinking pharmacy department, contributing to high‑quality pharmaceutical care across medical and surgical wards. The role offers the opportunity to support and supervise junior staff, lead quality improvement and audit projects, and drive medicines optimisation initiatives in collaboration with Principal Pharmacists.
Our department has recently refurbished, adopted a pharmacy robot, and established new units in the Cancer Centre and Outpatient Pharmacy, positioning the team for continued growth and innovation.
Responsibilities
* Take a key role in the delivery, development and evaluation of the Pharmaceutical Service to Divisional Teams and Clinical Service Units, meeting the requirements of pharmacy customers in accordance with legislation and departmental objectives.
* Facilitate and support the efficient and cost‑effective use of medicines across the Trust.
* Deputise for Principal Pharmacists at meetings and in training delivery within assigned areas of pharmaceutical care.
* Provide ward‑based clinical pharmacy services alongside other specialist pharmacists and technicians; support pharmacists, technicians and trainees.
* Work towards a role as an independent prescriber.
* Collaborate with Principal Pharmacists and Pharmacy Managers to ensure that medicines‑use policies and procedures are followed consistently with Trust priorities.
* Comply with Trust and Pharmacy Procedures, Clinical Governance, Quality Assurance and Risk Management.
Qualifications
Applicants should possess a Specialist Pharmacist qualification and a strong track record in clinical pharmacy. Experience in medicines optimisation, audit, or leading clinical pharmacy services is desirable. The role offers the opportunity to work towards independent prescribing status.
